  • 17-Jul-2018 Indonesia Amendments as regards pre-shipment inspection (PSI), alcoholic beverages, endangered species of wild fauna and flora, labelling requirements and trade-related news have been brought to the import documentation for Indonesia.
    The following changes have been made:

    Pre-Shipment Inspection (PSI)

    In accordance with the following Regulations and the corresponding executive Decrees issued by the Ministry of Trade, the goods mentioned below are now subject to pre-shipment inspection (PSI):

    Regulation No. 86 of 2017 and executive Decree No. 675 of 2018: electric cigarettes
    Regulation No. 29 of 2018 and executive Decree No. 595 of 2018: saccharin, cyclamate, and preparations of alcohol-containing odour
    Regulation No. 30 of 2018 and executive Decree No. 458 of 2018: hand tools, i.e. tools primarily intended for agriculture, forestry and horticulture.

    Alcoholic Beverages

    By virtue of Regulation No. 47 of 2018 on the control and supervision of alcoholic beverages, the Ministry of Trade has abolished the requirement of the import quota, which had previously been in effect for said drinks. Nevertheless, an Import Approval (PI), as detailed in the chapter on Foodstuffs below, is continued to be applied; please refer to the quoted paragraph for more information.

    Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora

    Indonesia is a party to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) and products thereof. For reasons of transparency, a section on Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora has been newly incorporated into this overview; please turn thereto for particulars.

    Labelling Requirements

    The labelling requirements for cosmetics have been blue-pencilled in accordance with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Directive regarding the labelling of such goods. Please refer to the corresponding paragraph further below for more information.

  • 17-Jul-2018 Canada Focus: assignment of tariff codes to import measures, medical devices, processing fees, the Registrar of Imported Vehicles (RIV) programme as well as trade-related news.
    The import documentation for Canada has been reviewed and amended accordingly. The following changes have been made:

    Assignment of Tariff Codes to Import Measures

    The product codes assigned to the documents listed below, i.e. the scope of goods to which such measures apply, have been revised in accordance with the most recent stipulations of the Canada Food Inspection Agency (CFIA):

    Pre-Arrival Review System
    Request for Documentation Review.

    As a result, these measures are now also applicable to, inter alia, peat (including peat litter), municipal waste and sewage sludge, vegetable textile fibres (e.g. flax, true hemp, jute, paper yarn, etc.), articles of stone, plaster, cement and mica as well as additional types of organic and inorganic chemicals, as of 7 May 2018.

    Medical Devices

    As of 16 March 2018, Health Canada regulates high-level disinfectant and sterilant solutions intended for use on medical devices, e.g. contact lens disinfectants, as Class II medical devices subject to the requirements of the Medical Devices Regulations. Accordingly, such goods are no longer subject to the provisions pertaining to antimicrobial agents under the Food and Drug Regulations. This import documentation, in particular the document entitled Medical Device Licence, has been amended to this effect, e.g. with regard to the documents to be enclosed and the current licensing fees.

    Processing Fees

    In accordance with the annual fees in force as of 1 April 2018, the following documents administrated by Health Canada have been brought up to date with regard to the processing fee:

    Drug Identification Number (DIN)
    Establishment Licence for Drugs
    Establishment Licence for Medical Devices.

    Registrar of Imported Vehicles (RIV) Programme

    In accordance with Customs Notice 18-06 from 20 June 2018, the fees for the importation of motor vehicles registered with the Registrar of Imported Vehicles (RIV) have been updated in the following documents:

    Import Form for Vehicles Imported for Parts
    Registration under the Pre-Clearance Programme for Motor Vehicles
    Vehicle Import Form.

  • 16-Jul-2018 Laos Focus: foodstuffs, pharmaceuticals and ozone-depleting substances (ODS).
    The import documentation for Laos has been reviewed and adapted accordingly. The following changes have been made:


    The document entitled Registration of Foodstuffs has been modified with information on a "risk account" established by the Food and Drug Department (FDD) responsible for the registration procedure of high-risk food products. For more details, please refer to the quoted document.


    Provisions concerning the registration measures for medicines intended for human use have been revised and updated with regard to the documents to be enclosed and application for renewal. Please see the amended document of this report entitled Registration of Pharmaceuticals for particulars.

    Ozone-Depleting Substances (ODS)

    The document entitled Registration of Importers of Ozone-Depleting Substances (ODS) has been newly added to the set of documents of this country report. Moreover, the section on Pesticides and Other Chemicals has been amplified with general information thereon.
